The FAU Owls men’s basketball team represents Florida Atlantic University in the NCAA Division I men’s college basketball The Owls compete in Conference USA They play their home games at the FAU Arena on the university’s Boca Raton campus.

In just their seventh season of existence, the Owls qualified for the postseason for the first time in program history, when they made the 2007 National Invitation Tournament (NIT). They became only the fourth team in NCAA Division I history to make the NIT with only one conference victory.[1] They reached the second round after defeating Troy, but lost to South Carolina They finished with a record of 19–12.

In April 2013, Michael Curry was hired as Head Coach [2] On March 14, 2016, Florida Atlantic defeated Middle Tennessee State 92–66 in Murray, Kentucky to win the Conference USA tournament and earn their first NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament berth in school history.[3][4] As a #16 seed playing #1 seed Xavier in Pittsburgh, they became only the seventh 16th seed ever to lead a number one seed at halftime. The game would finish with Xavier winning 91–75.[5]

The Owls had their first 20-win season in program history in 2016–17, finishing the season with a record of 21–10 overall and 11–7 in conference play They also made their first postseason appearance in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), where they lost to Central Florida in the first round.

Head coach Michael Curry enters his third season at the helm of the Owls in 2019–20. He has compiled a record of 40–32 (.556) so far, including a 19–11 mark (.633) last season.

Here are some Key Players to watch on this year’s team:

Sophomore guard BJ Stith is the leading returning scorer for the Owls after averaging 14.8 points per game as a freshman. He will be looked to as a key player on both ends of the court this season.

Senior forward Xzavier Malone-Key is another player who will be counted on to provide scoring and leadership for the Owls. He averaged 11.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game last season and will be one of the main options on offense once again in 2019–20.

Junior guard Michael Forrest is another player who could see an increased role this season. He appeared in all 31 games off the bench last year, averaging 5.4 points per game Forrest will look to provide a spark on both ends of the court as a key reserve player this season.

The Fau Basketball roster has undergone some changes since last season. Here is a look at the newcomers who will be donning Owls’ jerseys this year.

Freshmen:
-Xzavier Malone-Key: A 6’4″, 170-pound guard from Orlando, Malone-Key was a three-star recruit according to 247Sports. He was rated as the No. 153 shooting guard in the country and the No. 237 player in the state of Florida.

-Jaylen Roberts: A 6’7″, 185-pound forward from Riviera Beach, Roberts was also a three-star recruit according to 247Sports. He was rated as the No. 170 Power Forward in the country and the No. 246 player in the state of Florida.

Sophomores:
-Jailyn Ingram: A 6’2″, 185-pound guard from Kissimmee, Ingram averaged 4.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game as a freshman last season.

Juniors:
-Gerard Nocioni: A 6’7″, 190-pound forward from Argentina, Nocioni transferred to FAU after playing two seasons at Tallahassee Community College He averaged 16 points and seven rebounds per game last season at TCC.

The Florida Atlantic University basketball team will have some new faces when it hits the court for the 2020-21 season.

The Owls will have four new players on the roster, including three who will be eligible to play immediately as graduate transfers.

Head coach Mike Jarvis has also brought in a pair of junior college transfers who will have to sit out the 2020-21 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Fau Basketball Roster Strengths

One of the strengths of the Florida Atlantic University men’s Basketball team is their experience. The 2017-2018 roster includes six seniors, four juniors, and five sophomores. This gives the team a good mix of veteran leadership and young talent. Another strength of the team is their size. The roster includes three players 6’10” or taller, which can be a big advantage in basketball.

Tyler Robinson- The freshman point guard has been a revelation for the Owls. He is averaging 9.4 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game. He has also been solid defensively, averaging 1.4 steals per game. If he can continue to play at this level, he will be a big part of the Owls’ success this season.

Richardson Maitre- The senior shooting guard is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 14.1 points per game He is also shooting 41% from three-point range and 80% from the Free Throw Line If he can continue to knock down shots and score at a high level, the Owls will be tough to beat.

Jalen Young- The junior small forward is one of the best all-around players on the team. He is averaging 11.5 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals per game. He has also been very efficient, shooting 50% from the field and 38% from three-point range. If he can continue to stuff the Stat Sheet like he has been, the Owls will be in good shape.

Ronald Delph- The senior center is one of the best defenders in Conference USA. He is averaging 9 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal per game while shooting 64% from the field. If he can continue to anchor the defense and provide some scoring and rebounding down low, the Owls will be in good shape.

Shavar Richardson- The junior power forward has been a key cog in the Owls’ success this season. He is averaging 8 points and 5 rebounds per game while shooting 52% from the field and 50% from three-point range. If he can continue to provide some scoring and rebounding off the bench, the Owls will be in good shape

Starting Five

PG D’Shon Taylor: A transfer from Iowa State Taylor is expected to be the starting point guard for FAU this season. He is a solid shooter and has the ability to create for his teammates. However, he will need to show that he can be a leader on this young team.

SG Marcus Neely: Neely is a Junior College transfer who was one of the Top Juco scorers in the country last season. He will be counted on to provide some scoring punch for FAU off the bench.

SF Jailyn Ingram: Ingram is a freshman who was one of the top recruits in the state of Florida. She is a versatile player who can score, rebound, and defend. However, she will need to adjust to the higher level of competition in College Basketball

PF Gerdarius Troutman: Troutman is a senior who has been a starter for FAU for the past two seasons. He is a physical presence in the paint and is a good rebounder and shot blocker. However, he will need to show that he can be more consistent on offense this season.

C Ronnie Stevens: Stevens is a 7-footer who transferred to FAU from North Carolina State He has good size and length but will need to prove that he can be an effective player at this level.

Fau Basketball Roster Outlook

The 2019-2020 FAU Basketball Roster will feature a mix of experienced returners and talented newcomers. The Owls will look to build on last year’s success, when they won 22 games and made an appearance in the Conference USA Tournament semifinals.
