Georgetown NBA Players: Where Are They Now?

Remember those Georgetown Hoyas? They’re all in the NBA now. Here’s a look at where they are and what they’re doing.

Alonzo Mourning

Alonzo Mourning announced his retirement from the NBA in January of 2013, after playing a total of 15 seasons. He played with the Miami Heat for most of his career, and helped lead them to their first ever NBA Championship in 2006. He is now a board member for the Charlotte Hornets and has plans to open a Charter School in his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland.

Dikembe Mutombo

One of the most dominant Defensive Players in NBA history Dikembe Mutombo is best remembered for his years with the Denver Nuggets He was drafted fourth overall by the Nuggets in 1991 and quickly established himself as a Top Shot blocker and rebounder in the league. He won the Defensive Player of the Year Award four times during his career and was named to eight All-Star teams. He also played for the Atlanta Hawks Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets Houston Rockets and New York Knicks After retiring from the NBA in 2009, Mutombo returned to his native Congo to open a hospital. He is now a global ambassador for the NBA.

Allen Iverson

Allen Iverson was the number one overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft by the Philadelphia Sixers. He was an 11-time NBA All-Star and won the Most Valuable Player Award in 2001. Iverson is also the only player in NBA history to average at least 40 minutes per game for his entire career. After playing for the Sixers for 10 seasons, Iverson was traded to the Denver Nuggets in 2006. He played for the Detroit Pistons from 2008 to 2009, before finishing his career back with the Sixers in 2010. In 2016, Iverson was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame

Jeff Green

Jeff Green was drafted fifth overall by the Celtics in the 2007 NBA Draft He was immediately traded to the Seattle SuperSonics (now the Oklahoma City Thunder) as part of a package deal that netted the Celtics All-Star point guard Ray Allen Green spent his first three seasons in Seattle, averaging 9.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game He was traded to the Boston Celtics in 2011 as part of a deal that brought Kendrick Perkins to the Thunder.

Green became a key cog in the Celtics rotation, averaging a career-high 16.9 points per game in his first season with the team. He helped the Celtics reach the Eastern Conference Finals, where they lost to the Miami Heat in seven games. Green continued to be a Valuable Player for the Celtics over the next two seasons, averaging 12.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game He was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2014 as part of a deal that sent Courtney Lee to Boston.

Green has bounced around since then, playing for the Los Angeles Clippers, Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets He is currently a free agent

Roy Hibbert

Roy Hibbert was born on December 11, 1986, in Queens, New York. He is a professional basketball player who plays for the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Hibbert played college basketball for the Georgetown Hoyas and was drafted into the NBA in 2008. He has also played for the Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Lakers

Otto Porter

Otto Porter was drafted 3rd overall by the Washington Wizards in the 2013 NBA Draft He played 4 seasons for the Wizards, before being traded to the Chicago Bulls in 2017. In his time with the Wizards, Porter averaged 13 points per game and 6 rebounds per game. He was a key player for the Wizards, particularly in their playoff run in 2014, where they made it to the second round of the playoffs.

Porter struggled initially with the Bulls, averaging just 9 points per game in his first season with the team. However, he bounced back in his second season, averaging 17 points per game and becoming one of the Bulls’ most important players. He is currently averaging 19 Points per game and is one of the leading scorers on the Bulls.

Greg Monroe

Greg Monroe, who played for the Georgetown Hoyas from 2008 to 2010, is currently a center for theNBA’s Milwaukee Bucks The 6’11” big man was drafted in the first round of the 2010 NBA draft by the Detroit Pistons and spent five seasons with the team before being traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2015. Monroe has career averages of 13.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.

Bradley Beal

Bradley Beal was drafted by the Washington Wizards with the third overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft He is a two-Ime Nba All-Star and was named to the All-NBA Third Team in 2019. Beal averaged a career-high 30.5 points per game during the 2019-20 season He is currently the Wizards’ all-time leader in three-point field goals made.

Paul Pierce

Paul Pierce is an American former professional basketball player who played 19 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was a ten-time NBA All-Star and named the 2008 NBA Finals MVP. He played his first 15 seasons with the Boston Celtics who drafted him with the 10th overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft In July 2013, he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets and played two seasons with them before joining the Washington Wizards in 2016. He announced his retirement from Professional Basketball on September 29, 2017.
