The National Basketball Association is a Professional Basketball league in North America The NBA is widely considered to be the premier men’s professional Basketball League in the world. It has 30 teams, and is an active member of USA Basketball (USAB).

The NBA was founded in New York City on June 6, 1946, as the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The league adopted the name of the National Basketball Association on August 3, 1949, after consolidating with the rival National Basketball League (NBL). On April 22, 1951, three years after starting play, the BAA agreed to merge with the NBL, creating the NBA.

Today, the NBA has players from all over the world. Many players start their careers in college basketball others come from overseas leagues. The best players are selected to play in the annual All-Star game After 82 regular season games, eight teams from each conference advance to the playoffs.

The Finals are a best-of-seven series between the champions of the Eastern and Western conferences. The winning team receives the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.
