Jason Kelly: A Baseball Journey
In his new book, Jason Kelly details his lifelong love of the Game of Baseball and chronicles his journey through the ranks of minor league ball.
ASwitch-hitting infielder and outfielder originally from Massachusetts, Jason had his first taste of Minor League ball with the Lowell Spinners in 1998. He would go on to play for a number of other teams over the course of his career, including the Sarasota Red Sox Trenton Thunder, and Kansas City T-Bones.
While he never made it to the majors, Jason’s passion for the game was always evident, and he continued to play until 2012. Jason Kelly: A Baseball Journey Part 1
Jason Kelly is a professional baseball player who has played for several teams in his career. He is currently a free agent He has also played for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic
Jason was born and raised in San Diego California. His father was a baseball coach and his mother was a school teacher. Jason has two brothers, one of whom is also a professional baseball player
Jason played his first professional game with the San Diego Padres in 2009. He played with the Padres for three years before being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in 2012. He spent one season with the Blue Jays before being traded again, this time to the Cincinnati Reds in 2013. Jason only played one game with the Reds before being released.
After being released by the Reds, Jason became a free agent He later signed with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2014 but was released before the start of the season. He then signed with the Chicago White Sox but was again released before he could play a game for them. Finally, Jason signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2015 and made his Major League debut with them that same year.

Jason Kelly: A Baseball Journey Part 2
In 2001, Jason Kelly was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 44th round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft. He played in their minor league system for four years before being released. In 2005, he began playing independent baseball He played for several teams in the Frontier League American Association, and Can-Am League before finally retiring in 2010.
Jason Kelly’s baseball journey was not an easy one. He faced many hurdles and obstacles along the way. But he never gave up on his dream of making it to the Major Leagues
Despite all of the adversity he faced, Jason Kelly never lost sight of his goal. And in 2010, he finally accomplished it. He made his Major League debut with the Reds at the age of 28.

In the third and final installment of our series, we catch up with Jason Kelly to see how his Baseball Career is progressing. Jason is a professional baseball player who has played in the minor leagues for the last several years. He is currently a member of the Tampa Bay Rays organization.
Jason’s career has been a long and winding one. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the sixth round of the 2007 MLB Draft out of High School He then spent four years in the Yankees’ organization, reaching as high as Double-A before being released in 2011.
Jason then bounced around for a few years, playing independent ball and in foreign leagues. In 2015, he finally made it back to affiliated ball when he signed with the Rays. He spent that season Split between High-A and Double-A before being promoted to Triple-A for 2016.
Jason’s story is a great example of perseverance and determination. Despite being released by his original organization, he kept grinding away and finally made it back to where he wanted to be. Now, he’s one step away from his ultimate goal: playing in the Major Leagues

In Part 4 of our series, “Jason Kelly: A Baseball Journey ” we follow Jason as he is drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays and begins his professional career.
Jason had always dreamed of playing professional baseball and when he was drafted in the 16th round of the MLB draft by the Toronto Blue Jays he knew his dream had come true.
He was assigned to the Blue Jays’ Minor League affiliate, the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League. Jason quickly realized that Professional Baseball was a lot different than college baseball The talent level was higher and the competition was more intense.
He worked hard and eventually earned a promotion to the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Jason continued to work hard and developed into one of the best players in the Blue Jays’ organization.
In 2010, Jason made his Major League debut with the Toronto Blue Jays He appeared in 10 games for the Blue Jays before being traded to the Oakland Athletics midway through the season.
Jason bounced around between a few different teams over the next few years before finally settling down with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2014. He has been with the Pirates ever since and is currently one of their starting outfielders.
In 2017, Jason had a career year, hitting .283 with 27 home runs and 89 RBIs. He helped lead the Pirates to a playoff berth and was named an MLB All-Star for the first time in his career.
Jason Kelly has come a long way from his days as a teenage pitcher in Canada. He has worked hard and overcome many obstacles to become one of the best players in Major League Baseball today.
