Mike James is a retired American Professional Basketball player. He was born in Penticton, British Columbia, Canada, on October 25, 1975. James played collegiately for the University of Maryland and was selected in the second round of the 1998 NBA draft by the Miami Heat

Early Life and Career

Mike James was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on the 6th of May 1975. He is the eldest of four brothers. His father was a professional basketball player and his mother a schoolteacher. James has two daughters.

He played High School basketball at Simon Gratz high school As a senior, he was named Most Valuable Player of the city Championship game He then attended Mount Saint Mary’s University, where he played on the men’s basketball team

James began his professional career in 1997, with the Pistons’ Summer League team. He then played in Spain and Greece before returning to the United States to play for the Indiana Pacers in 2001. He spent two seasons with the Pacers, averaging 5.5 points and 2 assists per game

In 2003, James signed with the Miami Heat He played three seasons with the Heat, winning an NBA Championship in 2006. He averaged a career-high 20 points per game in 2005-06, and was named Most Improved Player of the Year by the NBA players Association.

In 2007, James signed with the Houston Rockets He played one season with the Rockets before being traded to the Chicago Bulls in 2008. He played two seasons with the Bulls before being released in 2010.

After spending a season out of the NBA, James rejoined the Miami Heat for one final season in 2011-12. He retired from basketball after that season.

James’ Time with the New York Knicks

In July of 2010, James signed a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the New York Knicks

James joined a Knicks team that was in the midst of an overhaul. After going 29-53 the previous season, the Knicks had hired new Head Coach Mike D’Antoni and completed a trade that sent longtime franchise player jamal crawford to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for point guard Tony Douglas

James did not have much of an opportunity to contribute during his time with the Knicks. He appeared in just 12 games, averaging 2.5 points and 1.3 assists in 8.8 minutes per game.

The Knicks went 42-40 during the 2010-11 season and made the playoffs as the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference They lost to the Boston Celtics in four games in the first round of the playoffs.

James was waived by the Knicks in December 2011 after appearing in just two games during the 2011-12 season.

James continued to be a key player for the Suns in his second season, starting all 82 games and averaging 18.6 points, 6.3 assists, 1.6 steals per game while shooting 45 percent from the field and 38 percent from three-point range. He was once again named to the All-Rookie First Team as the Suns won 62 games and made it back to the Western Conference Finals where they lost to the Spurs in seven games.

In his third season with the Suns, James started all 82 games and averaged 16 points, 5 assists, and 1 steal per game while shooting 44 percent from the field and 39 percent from three-point range as Phoenix won 58 games and made it back to the Western Conference Finals where they lost in five games to eventual champion Detroit Pistons

In September 2013, James returned to the United States to sign a non-guaranteed contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers However, he was later waived by Cleveland before appearing in a regular season game for them.
