The team is made up of 12 student-athletes, all of whom are working hard to earn their degree while also excelling on the court. Get to know them below!

The Starting Five

The Morgan State Bears are a NCAA Division I Basketball team representing Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. They currently compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). The Bears have appeared in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament three times. The team is currently coached by Kevin Broadus.

The Bench

The Morgan State University Bears men’s basketball team is composed of some of the most talented and hardworking athletes in the country. While the starting lineup gets most of the attention, the bench players are an integral part of the team and often provide a spark that propels the team to victory. Get to know some of the key bench players who will be stepping up this season.

Garrett Dinkins
Dinkins is a sophomore guard who hails from Detroit, Michigan. He played in all 33 games last season, averaging 2.4 points per game Dinkins is known for his tenacious defense and will be looking to build on his strong performance from last season.

Jibri Bryan
Bryan is a junior forward who comes from Baltimore, Maryland. He appeared in 32 games last season, averaging 3.5 points and 2 rebounds per game Bryan is a versatile player who can provide a spark on both Offense and defense

David McLaughlin
McLaughlin is a senior guard who Transfer from Virginia Commonwealth University He will be eligible to play immediately and is expected to make an impact on both ends of the court. McLaughlin is a strong shooter and willing defender who should be a key contributor for the Bears this season.

The Coaching Staff

The Morgan State Coaching Staff is led by Head Coach Kevin Broadus. He is joined by Associate head coach Nathaniel Brooks, assistant coaches Corey Barbour and Bryant Stith, and Director of basketball operations Keith Woolard.

Coach Broadus enters his sixth season at the helm of the Bears’ program. He has led the team to two MEAC regular season titles and one MEAC Tournament Championship Under his leadership, the Bears have compiled a 108-95 (.532) record.

Associate Head Coach Nathaniel Brooks is in his first season with the Bears. He previously served as an Assistant Coach at George Mason University.

Assistant Coach Corey Barbour is in his second season with the Bears. Prior to joining the coaching staff at Morgan State, he was an assistant coach at Stony Brook University.

Assistant Coach Bryant Stith is in his fifth season with the Bears. He played collegiately at the University of Virginia and was a member of Virginia’s Final Four team in 1984. Coach Stith also played 12 seasons in the NBA with teams such as the Denver Nuggets Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers.

The Schedule

The Morgan State Bears are set to open their season on Tuesday, November 5th at home against cross-town rival Coppin State That game will tip off at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a home contest against Saint Peter’s on Friday, November 8th at 7 p.m. The Bears will then embark on a four-game road trip that will take them to George Mason (November 12), Towson (November 16), Rider (November 19) and Hofstra (December 3).

The Rivalries

Morgan State University has a long and storied history in basketball. The school has produced some of the game’s greatest players and teams, and the programs have enjoyed success at the highest levels of competition. Today, the Morgan State Basketball team is a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and is one of the top programs in the conference. The team is coached by Kevin Broadus, who is in his fourth season at the helm.

The Morgan State basketball team has competed against some of the most historic programs in the country. The school’s most notable rivals include:

-The University of Maryland The Terrapins and Bears have met 125 times on the hardwood, with Maryland holding a commanding 92-33 lead in the all-time series. The two teams first met in 1914, and they have been common opponents over the years. Maryland and Morgan State have both been members of the MEAC since 1970, and they have met nearly every year since then. The Terps are one of Morgan State’s most familiar opponents, and the two teams always compete for conference supremacy.

Howard University The Bison and Bears have one of the fiercest rivalries in all of college basketball The two schools are located just four miles apart in Washington, D.C., and they have been competing against each other for nearly 100 years. Howard holds a slim 58-57 lead in the all-time series, but these two teams always put on a show when they meet on the court.

University Of Delaware The Blue Hens and Bears have been playing each other since 1949, and Delaware leads the all-time series 46-39. These two teams used to be regular opponents when Morgan State was a member of the Eastern 8 Conference (now defunct), but they have only met four times since Delaware joined the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in 2001. Regardless, this is still a regional rivalry with some history between these two programs.

The Arena

The Morgan State University Basketball team plays its home games at the Talmadge L. Hill Field House on the university’s campus in Baltimore, Maryland. The arena has a capacity of 3,200 fans and is named after former Morgan State Head coach Talmadge L. Hill, who led the Bears to six MEAC regular season championships and five MEAC tournament titles during his tenure.
