Introducing the Nebraska Women’s basketball roster for 2021

The Nebraska women’s Basketball team will look to rebound after a tough 2020 season that saw the program go 8-22 overall and 2-16 in conference play Head Coach Amy Williams returns for her fourth season at the helm, and she’ll have a revamped roster at her disposal. The Cornhuskers lost four seniors to graduation, but they bring in eight newcomers, including five freshmen. here’s a closer look at the Nebraska women’s Basketball Roster for the 2021 season:

Forwards:
Makenzie Helms: A 6-2 forward from Iowa City Helms is a transfer from South Dakota State She averaged 3.8 points and 3.0 rebounds per game as a junior with the Jackrabbits.

Grace Mitchell: A 6-2 forward from Omaha, Mitchell was a four-star recruit according to ESPN and the No. 1 player in Nebraska coming out of High School She played her freshman season at Louisville before transferring to Nebraska.

Jayda Bovero: A 6-3 forward from Papillion, Bovero is a transfer from Hutchinson Community College She averaged 13 points and 7 rebounds per game last season.

Isabelle Bourne: A 6-4 forward from Melbourne, Australia, Bourne comes to Nebraska after playing two seasons at Holmes Community College in Mississippi. As a sophomore, she averaged 11 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks per game.
Guards:
Natalie Romero: A 5-8 guard from Gilbert, Arizona, Romero was a four-star recruit according to ESPN and was ranked as the No. 16 point guard in the nation coming out of high school She began her career at Arizona State before transferring to Nebraska.

Sam Haiby: A 5-9 guard from Moorhead, Minnesota, Haiby is a transfer from Iowa State where she was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year after averaging 15 points per game as a freshman.
Elin Gustavsson: A 5-10 guard from Lulea, Sweden, Gustavsson comes to Nebraska after playing two seasons at Motlow State Community College in Tennessee where she was named an NJCAA All American after averaging 21 points per game as a sophomore.
Jasmine Cincore: A 5-11 guard from Chicago, Cincore comes to Nebraska after spending her first two collegiate seasons at DePaul where she averaged 7 points per game as a sophomore . Shrina Pillai :A 5-7 guard from Markham Ontario ,Pillai joins the Huskers after playing two seasons collegiately in Australia .

The Nebraska Women’s basketball team is gearing up for an exciting 2021 season. Get to know the players who will be representing the Cornhuskers this year.

#5 – Maddie Simon – Forward
Maddie Simon is a 6’1″ forward from Lincoln, Nebraska. A Standout Player in high school Simon was a two-time All-State selection and led her team to a state championship her senior year. She’s looking to make an impact for the Cornhuskers as a freshman this season.

#15 – Hannah Whitish – Guard
Hannah Whitish is a 5’9″ guard from Barneveld, Wisconsin. Whitish was a four-year starter in high school and helped her team to two State Championships She averaged over 15 points per game her senior year and was named First Team All-State. Whitish will be one of the leaders for the Cornhuskers this season.

#24 – Taylor Kissinger – Forward/Center
Taylor Kissinger is a 6’3″ forward/center from River Falls Wisconsin. Kissinger was a three-time All-State selection in high school and helped her team to a state championship as a senior. She averaged over 18 points and 9 rebounds per game her senior year and was named the Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year. Kissinger will be one of the Top Players for the Cornhuskers this season.

The Coaches

The 2021 season will be the 46th for women’s basketball at the University of Nebraska and the Cornhuskers will be looking to continue their tradition of excellence on the court. head coach Amy Williams enters her fourth season at the helm of the program, and she has assembled a talented Coaching Staff to help lead the way.

Assistant coaches Jillian Carrozza, Jamie Cuny and Brittanny Dinkins all return for their fourth seasons on Williams’ staff, while strength and Conditioning Coach Ashley Simmons will begin her third year with the team. Nebraska’s basketball support staff also features two new additions in 2021, as Kelsey Lewis has been hired as the director of player development and Katie Smith has been brought on as the program’s graphics coordinator.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers women’s basketball team will play a total of 31 regular season games in the 2020-21 season. The team will face off against 12 non-conference opponents and 19 conference opponents. Some of the key games on the schedule include:

– Nov. 15 vs South Dakota The Cornhuskers will open their season at home against South Dakota This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.

– Nov. 27 vs Duke: Nebraska will host Duke for the first time in program history. The Blue Devils are one of the most successful programs in women’s college basketball and this game will be a tough test for the Cornhuskers.

– Dec. 4 vs Oklahoma: Oklahoma is one of Nebraska’s biggest rivals in women’s basketball and this game is always a must-watch. The Sooners have won the last six meetings between the two teams, but Nebraska will be looking to turn things around this year.

– Jan. 1 vs Iowa State Nebraska will begin conference play on New Year’s Day with a game against Iowa State The Cyclones are one of the top teams in the Big 12 and this will be a good early test for the Cornhuskers as they look to compete for a conference title

The Rivalry

The Rivalry is an American college basketball rivalry game played by the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers women’s basketball team and the University of Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team The Cornhuskers and Hawkeyes women’s teams first played each other in 1977 and have since played each other 120 times. As of 2020, the Cornhuskers lead the all-time series 65-55.

The Tradition

The Nebraska Cornhuskers women’s basketball team has a long tradition of excellence, competing in the Big Ten Conference and regularly making appearances in the NCAA tournament The team is currently coached by Amy Williams, who took over the program in 2017. The Huskers have won eight conference championships and made ten appearances in the NCAA Tournament most recently in 2019.

The 2021 roster is led by senior guard Taylor Williamson, who was named to the All-Big Ten team last season. Other Key Players include junior forwards Isabelle Harrison and Ashley Scirtedis, and sophomore guard Sophie Cunningham. The team will look to build on its strong tradition this season and make a deep run in the NCAA tournament

The Future

The Cornhuskers have a bright future with an incoming recruiting class that’s being called one of the best in the country. The class is headlined by 5-star point guard Moziah Carter, who is considered one of the top guards in the nation. He’ll be joined by fellow 5-star recruit Jaden Johnson, who is rated as one of the top small forwards in the country. Four-star center Kaleb Johnson rounds out the class, and he’s expected to make an immediate impact on the team.
