Norfolk State Basketball is the Men’s Basketball team that represents Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia. The team currently competes in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). They are currently coached by Robert Jones.

-Nic Thomas: A 6’5″ shooting guard from Hampton, Virginia, Thomas is a local product who chose to stay close to home for his college basketball career. He’s a gifted scorer and will be counted on to provide a spark off the bench for NSU.

-Steven Whitley: A 6’7″ forward from Newark, New Jersey, Whitley is another player with big-time potential. He originally committed to play at Seton Hall but opted to transfer to Norfolk State after one year. He’s expected to start for the Spartans and be one of their go-to guys on offense.

-Javon Boggs: A 6’1″ point guard from Brooklyn, New York, Boggs was a late addition to NSU’s recruiting class but has already made an impact with his aggressive style of play. He figures to see significant minutes as the Spartans’ backup point guard

-Tyshawn Bell: A 6’6″ forward from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bell is a versatile player who can shoot and rebound well. He figures to see time at both forward spots for Norfolk State and should be a key contributor on both ends of the court.

Norfolk State men’s basketball team is made up of a variety of talents from around the country, including a few local products. Head Coach Robert Jones has assembled a roster that he believes can contend for a MEAC title this season. Below is a breakdown of each player on the team.

D’Shon Taylor: A 6-7 guard/forward from Baltimore, Md., Taylor is atransfer from Maine who will be eligible to play immediately for the Spartans. He averaged 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in two seasons with the Black Bears and shot 34 percent from 3-point range as a sophomore.

Steven Whitley: A 6-8 forward from Winston-Salem, N.C., Whitley averaged 11.4 points and 7.1 rebounds while shooting 57 percent from the field last season at Louisburg College. He originally signed with Norfolk State in 2015 out of high school but did not play due to injury.

Nic Thomas: A 6-3 guard from Hampton, Va., Thomas comes to Norfolk State after two years at Louisburg College. He averaged 17 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2 assists per game last season and was named first team all-conference and second team all-region.
