The North Texas Men’s basketball team has been through a lot in recent years Just three seasons ago, the team was winless in conference play and finished with a record of 5-25. However, since then, the Mean Green have undergone a complete transformation.
In the 2017-2018 season North Texas made it all the way to the Conference USA tournament final, where they ultimately lost to Marshall. Despite the loss, it was clear that the team had turned a corner and was on its way up.
The very next season, North Texas won the regular season conference title and made it back to the conference tournament final. This time, they were able to seal the deal and punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.
This season, North Texas has been even better than ever before. They won their second straight conference regular season title and made it back to the conference tournament final for the third straight year. And once again, they were able to come out on top and earn a spot in this year’s NCAA tournament
So far in the tournament, North Texas has pulled off two huge upsets, first defeating number six seed Houston in the first round and then taking down number three seed Indiana in the second round. With those two wins, North Texas has now advanced to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time ever.
The Mean Green will now take on number seven seed Florida State in the regional semifinals on Friday Night If they are able to win that game, they will face either Oregon or USC in Sunday’s regional final with a chance to advance to next week’s Final Four being on the line.
