The Syracuse Orangemen are currently ranked #1 in the nation in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. This is the first time that Syracuse has ever been ranked #1 in the country. Syracuse is also currently ranked #1 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ poll. The Orangemen have a record of 26-0 and they have won 19 straight games.

As of Monday, January 12th, the Syracuse University Men’s basketball team is ranked #1 in the nation according to the Associated Press Top 25 poll. This is the first time Syracuse has been ranked #1 in the AP poll since the 1990-1991 season. That year, Syracuse went on to win the NCAA National Championship

Currently, Syracuse has a record of 14-0 and is one of only four undefeated teams in Division I college basketball The other three teams are Louisville (14-0), Indiana (13-0), and Duke (13-0). Of those four teams, Syracuse has arguably the most difficult remaining schedule.

The key to Syracuse’s success this season has been their defense. Syracuse is currently leading the nation in points allowed per game, giving up an average of only 51.4 points per game They are also second in the nation in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to only 36.8% shooting from the field. Furthermore, Syracuse is forcing opponents into an average of 16 turnovers per game, which is good for fifth in the nation.

1. Rakeem Christmas: The 6-foot-9-inch, 250-pound senior center is Syracuse’s leading scorer and rebounder. He is averaging 17.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game Christmas is also a force on defense, as he is averaging 2.5 blocks per game.

2. Michael Gbinije: The 6-foot-7-inch, 200-pound junior guard is Syracuse’s second leading scorer. He is averaging 16.1 Points per game while shooting 47 percent from three-point range Gbinije is also a versatile player who can play multiple positions on the court.

3. Trevor Cooney: The 6-foot-4-inch, 195-pound junior guard is Syracuse’s best three-point shooter. He is shooting 43 percent from beyond the arc while averaging 13 points per game Cooney is also a solid defender, as he has helped Syracuse to a top 10 ranking in defensive efficiency this season.

It’s official. After a dominant win over then-ranked #2 Duke, Syracuse is now the top Basketball team in the nation according to the Associated Press Top 25 poll. It is the first time in program history that Syracuse has been ranked #1.

The Orange are not only the best team in the nation, but they are also one of the hottest teams in College Basketball Syracuse has won 13 games in a row and 18 of their last 19 games. They have only lost 2 games all season, with one of those coming against then-ranked #8 UConn in mid-November.

Syracuse’s resume is impressive. They have wins over then-ranked #9 Virginia, #11 Florida State and of course, #2 Duke. They also have a win over Baylor, who was previously undefeated and ranked 3rd in the nation.

What makes Syracuse’s run even more impressive is that they have done it without their star player sophomore center Bourama Sidibe. Sidibe has missed Syracuse’s last 13 games with a Knee Injury but is expected to return soon. When he does come back, it will make an already strong Syracuse team even stronger.

Looking ahead at Syracuse’s schedule, they have a few tough games remaining. They will play Louisville on Saturday, February 22nd at noon ET on ESPN. That will be followed by a road game against Notre Dame on Wednesday, February 26th at 7:00 pm ET on ESPN2.

Syracuse will then close out their regular season with two home games against Pittsburgh and Wake Forest before beginning ACC nt play

As it stands right now, Syracuse is in a great position to not only win the ACC regular season title but also to earn a top seed in the NCAA tournament come March Madness time
