Karen Aston is in her seventh season as the Head Coach of the Longhorns. She has led Texas to four NCAA tournament appearances, including a trip to the Sweet Sixteen in 2016.
Assistant coach Vic Schaefer was recently named the head coach at Mississippi State Schaefer had been with Aston for six seasons, and his departure leaves a void on her staff.
Texas native Gary Blair is in his sixth season as Head Coach at South Carolina Blair has won two national championships, in 2005 and 2015. He is one of only four active coaches with multiple titles.

In recent years a number of Texas alumnae have gone on to have successful careers in the professional ranks. Among them are guards Skylar Diggins-Smith and Kelsey Plum, who both play for the WNBA’s Dallas Wings, and center Brittney Griner who plays for the Phoenix Mercury.
Diggins-Smith, who was drafted third overall by Dallas in 2013, is a two-time All-Star and was named the WNBA’s Most Improved Player in 2015. She is currently averaging 17.9 points per game for her career.
Plum, who was drafted first overall by San Antonio in 2017, is averaging 11.5 points per game in her rookie season with the Stars. She was also named to the All-Rookie Team last year.
Griner, who was drafted first overall by Phoenix in 2013, is a three-time All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of the Year. She is currently averaging 19.7 points per game for her career.
