U of L Women’s Basketball: The defending National Champs
U of L Women’s Basketball is the defending National Champion. The team finished the season with a record of 32-4, winning the AAC regular season and conference tournament titles. The Cardinals were seeded first in the NCAA tournament and advanced to the Elite Eight, where they lost to eventual national champion Connecticut.
Louisville’s Head Coach is Jeff Walz, who is in his tenth season with the Cardinals. He has led Louisville to nine NCAA Tournament appearances, six Sweet Sixteen appearances, four Elite Eight appearances, and two Final Four appearances. In 2013, he was named National Coach of the Year by ESPN.
The Cardinals return four starters from last year’s team: senior guard Myisha Hines-Allen, junior guard Arica Carter, senior forward Sam Fuehring, and sophomore center Bria Smith. They also bring in a talented freshman class that includes guards Asia Durr and Dana Evans, forwards Kylee Shook and Jazmine Jones, and center Loretta Kakalec.
Louisville will open their season on November 11th at home against sienna.

Fuehring is a 6’3″ post player who was a force on defense last season, averaging 2.1 blocks per game. Carter is a 5’8″ guard who is an excellent shooter and distributor of the ball. Both players will be key contributors on both ends of the court for Louisville this season.
The Cardinals also have a talented group of newcomers that will add depth to the team. Freshmen guards Mykasa Robinson and Kianna Smith are both highly-touted recruits that should see significant playing time this season. Robinson is a 6’1″ guard from Alabama who is an excellent shooter, while Smith is a 5’9″ guard from California who is an elite defender.
