Introduction

The Wyoming Cowboys basketball team represents the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming. The Cowboys compete in the Mountain West Conference (MWC) of NCAA Division I and play their home games at the Arena-Auditorium. They are currently led by Head Coach Craig Bohl and assistant coaches Heath Schroyer, Scott Duncan, and Jamie Dixon

The Wyoming Cowboys are a men’s college Basketball team that competes in the Mountain West Conference The team is currently coached by Allen Edwards and plays its home games at the Arena-Auditorium in Laramie, Wyoming.

The Cowboys are perhaps best known for their upset victory over UCLA in the first round of the 1969 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament That season, the Cowboys went on to reach the Elite Eight before losing to eventual National Champion Purdue.

Wyoming has had 11 head coaches in its history, including two who have been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Hank Iba and Everett Case. The Cowboys have appeared in four NCAA tournaments and have had 13 players named to All-Mountain West teams.

Head Coach Allen Edwards

Allen Edwards is the current head coach of the University of Wyoming’s men’s basketball team He was hired in 2017 after previous Head Coach Larry Shyatt retired. Prior to coaching at Wyoming, Edwards was an Assistant Coach at Texas Tech under Head coach Tubby Smith.

Edwards is a native of Cheyenne, Wyoming and played collegiate basketball at the University of New Mexico from 1993 to 1997. As a player, he was a member of the Lobos’ 1996 NCAA tournament team that reached the Sweet Sixteen

Wyoming has two Assistant coaches for the men’s Basketball team They are Ryan Swan and Steve Eck. Both Ryan and Steve have years of experience coaching youth, High School and college-Level Basketball They are passionate about the game and their experience will be a valuable asset to the team.

In the Mountain West Tournament, they defeated Nevada before losing to San Diego State in the semifinals.

The 2017-18 Season

The 2017-18 Wyoming Cowboys basketball team represents the University of Wyoming during the 2017-18 NCAA Division I men’s basketball season The Cowboys are led by sixth-year head coach Larry Shyatt and play their home games at the Arena-Auditorium in Laramie, Wyoming as members of the Mountain West Conference They finished the season 15–17, 8–10 in Mountain West play to finish in a tie for seventh place. They failed to qualify for the Mountain West Tournament.

The Cowboys are looking to rebound after a disappointing 2016-17 campaign that saw them finish with a 15–17 record, including just a 6–12 mark in conference play However, with a solid nucleus of returnees and a talented group of newcomers, the Cowboys are poised to make some noise in the conference this season.

Leading the way for the Cowboys this season will be senior forward Alan Herndon, who averaged 10.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game last season.
