In 2018 they finished with a winning record for the first time since 2013 and this past season they had their best season in thirteen years. They had an impressive 37-20 record, won their Conference Tournament and made it all the way to the NCAA Tournament Regional Final where they narrowly lost to eventual National Champion Vanderbilt.

With a young core of talented players returning next season, there is reason to believe that YSU Baseball is on the rise once again and that they will be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.

In Pegueros’s first season at the helm, YSU went 20-28 and finished fourth in the OVC. Despite their record, the Penguins were competitive in nearly every game and Pegueros laid the foundation for what would be a successful program.

In his second season, YSU took a big step forward. The team went 30-22 overall and finished third in the OVC with a 16-8 conference record. They also made their first appearance in the OVC Tournament since 2014 and nearly pulled off an upset of top-seededUT Martin before falling 5-4 in 10 innings.

The 2019 season was another step in the right direction as YSU went 31-21 overall and finished second in the OVC with a 17-7 conference record. The Penguins also advanced to the OVC Tournament semifinals for the first time since 2008 before falling to eventual champion Southeast Missouri State

The 2020 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but not before YSU got off to a hot start. The Penguins were 13-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play when the season was halted. They were ranked as high as No. 24 in national polls and were poised for another strong season.
