The NBA draft is one of the most important events in Professional Basketball Teams select players that they think will help them win games, and fans watch as their favorite player is selected. However, the draft has been criticized for being too predictable with teams picking based on need rather than talent. The NBA has tried to change this by making a trade deadline before the draft, but it hasn’t seemed to work.

The Top Prospects
As the college Basketball season comes to a close, all eyes turn to the NBA draft This years draft is being touted as one of the deepest and most talented in recent memory, with several future stars expected to be selected.
At the top of the draft board is Dukes Zion Williamson a 67 forward who is widely considered to be the best prospect since Lebron James Williamson is an explosive athlete with rare power and agility for someone his size. He averaged 22.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game this season, leading Duke to the NCAA championship Game.
Another top prospect is Ja Morant, a 63 point guard from Murray State Morant was electrifying this season, averaging 24.5 points and 10 assists per game while leading Murray State to their first NCAA tournament berth in 17 years. He is a dynamic playmaker with superb vision and court awareness.
Rounding out the top three is RJ Barrett, another Duke forward who averaged 22.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game this season. Barrett is a gifted scorer with superb athletic ability and a High Basketball IQ. He should be able to make an immediate impact at the next level.
Other prospects expected to hear their names called early on draft night include Gonzaga center Brandon Clarke, Texas Tech guard Jarrett Culver, Auburn forward Chuma Okeke, Virginia forward Deandre Hunter North Carolina guard Coby White and Tennessee forward Grant Williams
The Sleepers
There are a few players in the NBA draft that have the potential to be great, but may not be selected in the first round. These are typically referred to as “sleepers.” Here are a few of the potential sleepers in this year’s draft:
-Dennis Smith Jr., PG, North Carolina State Smith was one of the most electric players in college basketball this past season and has the potential to be a star at the next level. He may not be selected in the first round, but he has the talent to be a lottery pick.
--Lonzo Ball PG, UCLA: Ball is an incredible passer and has the potential to be a very good player in the NBA. He may not go in the first round, but he could be a steal if he falls to the second round.
-TJ Leaf, PF, UCLA: Leaf is a versatile big man who can score inside and out. He may not go in the first round, but he could be a very good player if he falls to the second round.

The Fallers
Its been a long time since the Lakers drafted in the lottery. In fact, its been so long that it predates the current NBA Draft lottery system. Their last lottery pick was James Worthy in 1982. This year, they have the seventh and tenth overall selections in the NBA draft and according to early mock drafts they are expected to use those picks on Lonzo Ball and Josh Jackson respectively.
The Lakers are coming off a season in which they finished 26-56, good for second-Worst Record in the Western Conference and fourth-worst in the league. They havent made the playoffs since 2013, when they were swept in the first round by the San Antonio Spurs.
The Wildcards

In the NBA draft a wildcard is a player whose stock has risen or fallen unexpectedly leading up to the draft. Here are some of the wildcards in this year’s draft.
### De’Andre Hunter
De’Andre Hunter was one of the top prospects in the country coming into his junior season at Virginia, but his stock took a bit of a hit when he missed most of the season with a wrist injury He came back strong in the NCAA Tournament however, and is now projected to be a lottery pick.
### Sekou Doumbouya
Sekou Doumbouya is a 6’9″ forward from Guinea who has been playing professionally in France for the past few years. He’s only 18 years old, but he has already drawn comparisons to potential No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson He’s still somewhat of an unknown quantity, but he could be a sleeper pick on draft night.
### Bol Bol
Bol Bol is another player who missed significant time due to injury this season, as he played in just nine games for Oregon before suffering a season-ending foot injury. Bol is 7’2″, and he has the skill level of a much smaller player. If he can stay healthy, he has the potential to be a very good pro.
The International Prospects
The 1979 NBA Draft was the 33rd annual draft of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The draft was held on June 25, 1979, before the 197980 season. In this draft, 22 NBA teams took turns selecting amateur U.S. college basketball players and other eligible players, including International Players The first two picks in the draft belonged to the teams that finished last in each conference, with the order determined by a coin flip. The Indiana Pacers won the coin flip and were awarded the first overall pick, while the Kansas City Kings, who obtained the New Jersey Nets’ first-round pick in a trade, were awarded the second pick. The remaining first-round picks and the subsequent rounds were assigned to teams in reverse order of their winloss record in the previous season. A player who had finished his four-year college eligibility was automatically eligible for selection. Before the draft, five college underclassmen announced that they would leave school early and would be eligible for selection. The draft consisted of 10 rounds comprising 162 players selected over 7 rounds.
__International Prospects__:
The league’s selections included eight foreign-born players; this was tied with 1975 for second-most ever at that point behind only 1976 (when ten such players were drafted). These prospects included:
* Vladimir Tkachenko from USSR 2nd round, 35th overall by Philadelphia 76ers
* Abdul Jeelani from Somalia 2nd round, 36th overall by Indiana Pacers
* Arvydas Sabonis from USSR 3rd round, 77th overall by Boston Celtics (arrived to NBA 10 years later)
* Johannes “Joaquin” Costa from Spain 5th round, 119th overall by Portland Trail Blazers
* Owen Macaulay from Jamaica 5th round, 120th overall by San Diego Clippers
* Lyman DePriest Smith from Bahamas 6th round, 151st overall by Los Angeles Lakers
* Ramsey Davenport from United States Virgin Islands 8th round, 203rd overall by New York Knicks

The Second Round
The second round of the 1979 NBA draft was held on June 25, 1979. A total of 23 NBA Teams took part in the second round of the draft. The Los Angeles Lakers used their first-round pick to draft Magic Johnson from Michigan State University with the first overall pick. This would turn out to be one of the best draft picks in Lakers history as Johnson would go on to win five NBA championships with the team.

These players were David Greenwood, Larry Micheaux, JC Carroll, Mitchell Wiggins, and Bill Garnett.[1][2]
The draft consisted of 10 rounds comprising 212 selections.[3] This was two more than the previous year’s draft which did not include any compensatory selections.[4]
