Why Duke is a Top Contender for the National Championship
Duke is one of the top contenders for the National Championship this year. The team is loaded with talent, and they have the experience to make a deep run in the tournament. Duke has been to the Final Four five times in the last ten years, and they won the National Championship in 2015.
The Blue Devils are led by forward Zion Williamson who is one of the best players in the country. Williamson is averaging 22.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game and he will be a tough match-up for any team in the tournament.
Duke also has a sharp-shooting guard in RJ Barrett, who is averaging 22.1 points per game Barrett is one of the best scorers in the country, and he will be a tough assignment for any opposing team
The Blue Devils have a lot of talent, and they are coached by one of the best coaches in college basketball Mike Krzyzewski Duke has everything they need to win the National Championship this year, and they will be a tough out for any team in the tournament.
Duke’s National Championship History
Duke has a storied history when it comes to College Basketball and they’ve been one of the most successful teams in the country for many years. But how successful have they been when it comes to winning National Championships?
Since the NCAA began holding a tournament to determine a National Champion in 1939, Duke has won five National Championships Their first came in 1991, and their most recent was in 2015. In between, they also won titles in 1992, 2001, and 2010. That gives them an average of one National Championship every eight years.
So, will Duke be able to add another National Championship to their collection this year? It’s certainly possible. They have a very good team, and they’re always a contender when March Madness rolls around. But with so many other good teams out there, it’s far from a sure thing. We’ll just have to wait and see how things play out come tournament time!
Duke’s Road to the National Championship
Duke is one of the favorites to win the National Championship this year. They have a strong team, led by freshman sensation Zion Williamson They have a tough road ahead of them, but if they can stay focused and play to their potential, they have a good chance of winning it all.
How Duke Can Win the National Championship
Duke has the talent and coaching to win the National Championship Here’s how they can do it.
The 2019-20 Duke Men’s basketball team is one of the most talented and well-coached teams in recent memory. Led by Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski the Blue Devils have a core of five star recruits that includes point guard Tre Jones, shooting guard Cassius Stanley, small forward Wendell Moore Jr., Power Forward Matthew Hurt and center Vernon Carey Jr.. All five players were ranked in the top ten of their respective positions by ESPN coming out of High School with Hurt and Carey being consensus top three prospects. In addition to these five standouts, Duke also has a bevy of role players that will see significant minutes and make crucial contributions throughout the season.
With all this talent, it is no surprise that Duke is currently ranked as the number one team in the country by both the Associated Press and Coaches Polls. They are also projected to be a number one seed in the NCAA tournament come March. While it is certainly possible that any one of a number of teams could win the National Championship this season, Duke certainly has as good a chance as any to take home college basketball’s ultimate prize.
One reason why Duke is so dangerous is that they have multiple players who can take over a game and carry the team when necessary. Jones is an excellent point guard who does an incredible job running Krzyzewski’s offense while also being a very good defender. He is not known as a scorer, but he doesn’t need to be with all the other talent on Duke’s roster. When Jones needs to score, he is more than capable of putting up points in bunches. He proved this during Duke’s game against Stephen F. Austin when he scored 22 points in place of an injured Stanley.
Speaking of Stanley, he gives Duke another much-needed scoring punch on the wing. At 6’5″, he has good size for a shooting guard and can finish above the rim with ease. He also has range beyond the three-point line and is not afraid to take Big Shots when his team needs him to step up. One such instance occurred during Duke’s rivalry game against Kentucky earlier this season when Stanley hit a clutch three-pointer late in the second half to help seal a victory for his team.
In addition to these two standout guards, Duke also has two bonafide stars down low in Carey and Hurt. Carey is one of the best post players in recent memory, utilizing his 6’10”, 270 pound frame to bully opposing defenders in the paint. He gets great position on offense and uses his soft touch around the basket to score seemingly at will; he also crashes the glass hard on both ends of the floor and uses his massive frame to block shots and grab rebounds at a high rate. Defensively, Carey uses his strength to bodyslam anyone who tries enter his territory in
The Case Against Duke Winning the National Championship
The Duke Blue Devils are one of the most successful College Basketball programs of all time. They have won five national championships, and their players have been some of the most dominant in the sport.
However, this year’s team is not as strong as previous Duke teams. Their star player Zion Williamson has been injured for much of the season, and their other Top Players are not as talented as some of the other top players in the country.
Furthermore, Duke has not been tested much this season. They have not played against any of the other top teams in the country, and their conference, the ACC, is not as strong as it has been in recent years
As a result, it is unlikely that Duke will win the National Championship this year.
The Other Top Contenders for the National Championship
In addition to Duke, there are a number of other schools that have a strong chance to win the National Championship this year. Here is a look at some of the other top contenders:
Kentucky: The Wildcats are the defending champions and have one of the most talented rosters in the country. They are led by freshman sensation Anthony Davis who is averaging 14 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks per game.
North Carolina The Tar Heels are one of the most experienced teams in the country and are led by senior point guard Kendall Marshall. They are also one of the best Defensive Teams in the nation, giving up just 60 points per game
Ohio State The Buckeyes are led by junior forward Jared Sullinger, who is averaging 17 points and nine rebounds per game They also have one of the best defenses in the country, giving up just 61 points per contest.
Kansas: The Jayhawks are always one of the top teams in the country and this year is no different. They are led by junior guard Elijah Johnson, who is averaging 13 points per game
How the national championship Will Be Decided
In order to win the National Championship Duke will need to do two things: first, they will need to win all of their remaining games, and second, they will need to rely on other teams to lose some of their games.
What Duke Needs to Do to Win the National Championship
Duke has the talent to win the national championship but they will need to play well as a team to make it happen. Here are some things they need to do:
--play defense Duke has the length and athleticism to be a great defensive team. They need to use that to their advantage and make it tough for opponents to score.
-rebound: Duke has some great rebounders, but they need to do a better job of boxing out and getting rebounds as a team.
-share the ball: Duke has several skilled scorers, but they need to share the ball and play unselfishly if they want to win.
-play with heart: Duke has the talent to win, but they need to play with passion and heart if they want to be champions.
