Al Harrington was born into a family of professional basketball players on February 17, 1980, in St. Louis, Missouri. The Harringtons are one of only two NBA families who have produced three generations of players. Al’s grandfather, Elgin Baylor, was an All-American at Seattle University and was the first overall pick in the 1958 NBA draft He went on to have a Hall of Fame career with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he was an 11-time All-Star and won eight NBA championships Al’s father, Albert Sr., played four seasons in the NBA with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Chicago Bulls His uncle, Curtis Rowe, also played four seasons in the NBA.

Al Harrington began his own Basketball Journey at Rogers high school in St. Louis. He was a McDonald’s All-American as a senior in 1998 and went on to play one season of college basketball at the University of Virginia before declaring for the NBA Draft He was selected by the Indiana Pacers with the 25th overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft

Harrington spent his first seven seasons with the Pacers, emerging as one of their best players during that time. He averaged a career-high 20 points per game in 2003-04 and helped lead Indiana to the Eastern Conference Finals that season. He was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in 2005 and spent three seasons there before being traded to the Golden State Warriors in 2008.

Harrington had his best years as a member of the Warriors, helping them reach the playoffs in each of his two full seasons there. He averaged 18 points per game for Golden State in 2009-10 and then signed with the Denver Nuggets as a free agent prior to the 2010-11 season. Harrington has also played for the Orlando Magic Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets over his 17-year NBA Career

Harrington enjoyed his best statistical seasons during his two years with the Atlanta Hawks averaging 20 points and 6 rebounds per game in 2005-06 and 19 points and 5 rebounds per game in 2006-07. He also helped the Hawks reach the playoffs both years. After stops with the Golden State Warriors New York Knicks Denver Nuggets Orlando Magic Washington Wizards and Phoenix Suns Harrington returned to the Indiana Pacers in 2014. He announced his retirement from the NBA after 16 seasons in 2015.

He would play for the Warriors for 5 seasons before being traded to the Orlando Magic in 2010. After 2 seasons with the Magic, Harrington was waived and he signed with the Denver Nuggets He played for the Nuggets for 2 years before signing with the Washington Wizards in 2013. After one season with the Wizards, Harrington signed with the Fujian Sturgeons of China. In 2016, he signed with his hometown team, the Alba Berlin of Germany. Most recently, Harrington has been appearing on ESPN as an analyst and commentator.

Harrington’s NBA journey has taken him to many different places and he has had many different experiences. In reflection, Harrington said that his time in China was his most eye-opening experience because it gave him a different perspective on life. He also said that his time withthe Warriors was special because ofthe historic run they went on in 2007. Lastly, Harrington said that his time withthe Wizards was special because he got to play alongside his childhood idol, Michael Jordan
