The Austin Peay Governors men’s Basketball team is set to begin their 2019-20 season soon, and fans are getting anxious to see how the team will perform. Head Coach Matt Figger has assembled a talented group of players, many of whom hail from the state of Tennessee. In this article, we’ll get to know the team’s guards, who will play a pivotal role in the squad’s success this season.
Leading the way for the Governors at point guard is junior college transfer Jared Savage. A native of Murfreesboro, TN, Savage is a quick and shifty guard who can score in a variety of ways. Joining Savage in the backcourt is freshman Davion Warren A 6’4″ guard from Nashville, Warren is an explosive scorer who can also impact the game on the defensive end of the court. He’s still adjusting to the college game, but he has all the tools to be a star in the OVC for years to come.
Rounding out the trio of guards is junior transfer Marcus Weathers. Weathers comes to Austin Peay from Miami (OH), where he averaged 4.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game last season. At 6’5″, he has good size for a guard and provides another scoring option for coach Figger off the bench.
