The Gators competed in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Eastern Conference (SEC). They played their home games at the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on the university’s Gainesville, Florida campus, and were led by Head Coach Billy Donovan.
In his nineteenth season as Florida’s Head coach Donovan guided the Gators to a 21–14 overall record and an 8–10 mark in SEC play. After losing in the first round of both the SEC tournament and NCAA tournament Donovan resigned from his position on June 1, 2016 to take over as head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder Mike White, who had served as an assistant under Donovan since 2011, was hired as his replacement three days later.

In their first game, they defeated seventh-seeded underdog Virginia Richmond, who had upset second-seeded Kentucky in their opening game. The Gators then advanced to face second-seeded Michigan State in the Round of 32, where they were defeated by a final score of 62–56.

The Gators started the season off with a bang, winning their first 14 games to climb to the top of the AP Poll. Florida’s high-powered offense was on full display during this stretch, as they averaged 83.6 points per game while shooting 49.5% from the field and 41.5% from three-point range The team’s leading scorer during this stretch was junior guard Michael Frazier, who averaged 16.9 points per game
Florida’s streak came to an end with a loss to Alabama on January 17, but the team quickly got back on track with wins over Georgia and Vanderbilt. The month of February was unkind to the Gators, as they lost back-to-back games against Kentucky and LSU. However, Florida bounced back with a vengeance in March, winning seven straight games to close out the regular season and clinch the SEC regular season title outright.
The Gators entered the NCAA tournament as the No. 2 seed in the East Region and proceeded to cruise through their first four games, extending their Winning Streak to 11 games. Florida’s run came to an end in the Elite Eight, however, as they were upset by eventual national champion Duke, 63-65. Despite the disappointing end to their season, there was plenty for Gator fans to be excited about moving forward, as most of Florida’s Key Players were set to return for the 2015-16 season.

Off-Season Highlights
The Florida Gators had a strong showing in the 2015 off-season, with several team members earning accolades and recognition. Gator shooting guard/small forward Devin Robinson was named to the 2015 All-SEC Freshman Team, and was also named SEC Freshman of the Week twice. Jordan Humphrey, another Gator freshman, was ranked as the No. 12 small forward in the nation by ESPN
Point guard Chris Chiozza was ranked as one of the top-10 point guards in the country by 247Sports, and center John Egbunu was ranked as one of the top-10 centers. The Gators also had two players named to the SEC All-Defensive team Robinson and Humphrey.
