The Missouri Valley Conference race is shaping up to be a close one. With less than a month to go until the end of the regular season there are four teams within two games of each other at the top of the standings.
The conference’s leading scorer is freshman guard Xavier Tillman of Michigan State who is averaging 17.4 points per game He is followed closely by another freshman, guard Romeo Langford of Indiana, who is averaging 16.9 points per game
The most improved team in the conference this season has been Drake, which has won eight of its last 10 games after starting the season with a 5-11 record. The Bulldogs are led by junior forward Nick Norton, who averages 14.6 points and 6.8 assists per game
The conference tournament will be held March 7-10 at Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The tournament winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament

As of this writing, the Illinois State Redbirds are in first place with a record of 17-5. They are followed closely by the Drake Bulldogs who are just behind them with a 16-6 record. In third place are the Loyola Ramblers, who have a 15-7 record. Rounding out the top four are the Bradley Braves who have a 14-8 record.
Just outside the top four are the Indiana State Sycamores and the Northern Iowa Panthers both of whom have 13-9 records. The Sycamores are in fifth place due to their better head-to-head record against the Panthers. The Missouri State Bears are in seventh place with a 12-10 record, followed by the Southern Illinois Salukis in eighth place with an 11-11 record. The bottom two teams in the conference are the Wichita State Shockers and the Evansville Aces both of whom have 10-12 records.

The Missouri Valley Conference is one of the best conferences in the country. It is comprised of 10 teams: Wichita State Illinois State Loyola (Chicago), Bradley, Indiana State Northern Iowa, Evansville, Missouri State Drake and Southern Illinois.
The conference is currently led by Wichita State who is 23-5 overall and 13-3 in conference play They are followed closely by Illinois State, who is 21-7 overall and 12-4 in conference play Loyola (Chicago) is third with a 20-8 overall record and a 11-5 conference record.
Bradley rounds out the top four with an 18-10 overall record and a 10-6 conference record. The Braves are followed by Indiana State (16-12/9-7), Northern Iowa (15-13/9-7), Evansville (14-14/8-8), Missouri State (11-17/6-10), Drake (10-18/4=12) and Southern Illinois (7--21/3=13).
The top eight teams in the conference will advance to the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament which will be held March 1st through 5th at Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
