The Notre Dame baseball team is looking to make a run at the 2019 College World Series and they have the roster to do it. Check out the full list of ND players and their positions.

2019 Roster

The 2019 Notre Dame Baseball Team will feature a blend of experienced veterans and promising young talents. The returning roster includes 14 Position players and six pitchers. The team will be looking to build on the success of last year’s squad, which finished with a record of 42-19 and reached the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive year.

The pitching staff will be led by senior left-hander Brandon Bielak, who is coming off a stellar junior campaign in which he posted a 9-3 record with a 2.67 ERA. Bielak will be joined in the rotation by junior right-hander Peter Solomon who went 8-4 with a 3.94 ERA last season. The bullpen will feature senior right-handers Brad Bass and John Michael Bertrand, junior right-hander Cole Kmet, and sophomore left-hander Cameron Brown.

The position players are highlighted by senior first baseman Niko Kavadas, who was named the 2018 ACC Player of the Year after hitting .342 with 19 home runs and 58 RBIs. Senior third baseman Eric Gilgenbach and junior shortstop Zack short also return after being named All-ACC last season. Senior outfielders Matt Vierling and Alex Kerschner are also back after starting all 61 games for the Irish in 2018.

2019 Coaching Staff

The 2019 Notre Dame baseball coaching staff will feature three new assistant coaches it was announced Monday by Head Coach Link Jarrett.
Joining the staff are pitching coach Sean Kenny, hitting coach Matt441 Tyner and volunteer Assistant Coach Troy Thompson.
“I am really excited about this Coaching Staff ” Jarrett said. “We have guys with a lot of different experiences, both at the collegiate and professional levels. They are all great recruiters and will be able to relate well to our team.”

Kenny joins the Irish after spending the previous four seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Stetson. He has also served as an assistant coach at North Carolina A&T (2012-13) and Coastal Carolina (2009-11).
A native of Rye, N.Y., Tyner comes to Notre Dame after serving as an assistant coach and hitting coordinator at Auburn for the past three seasons (2016-18). He has also been an assistant coach at Towson (2015), Maryland Eastern Shore (2013-14) and George Mason (2011-12).
Thompson served as the head coach at his alma mater,army West Point for the past five seasons (2014-18), leading the Black Knights to a 165-188 (.466) record during his tenure.

2019 Stats

The 2019 Notre Dame baseball team will look to improve on their 33-25 overall record from last season. They will also look to make it back to the NCAA Tournament after missing out last season. The Irish will have some big shoes to fill as they lost some Key Players from last year’s team, but they have a lot of talent returning. Here is a breakdown of the 2019 Notre Dame baseball team by position:

Catchers:
The Irish have two experienced catchers returning in junior Zack Short and senior Liam Hendriks. Short is coming off a great 2018 season where he hit .298 with 10 home runs and 38 RBI. Hendriks provides good depth behind Short and is a solid defender.

Infielders:
The Irish have a lot of experience returning in the infield with all four starters from last season back. Senior Cole Haring will man first base after hitting .273 with nine home runs and 32 RBI last season. Senior Andres older brother Alex Soriano will play second base after hitting .263 with two Home Runs and 24 RBI in 2018. At shortstop, the Irish have sophomore Nick Podkul, who hit .267 with one home run and 18 RBI as a freshman last season. Junior Eric Gilgenbach rounds out the infield at third base. He hit .236 with five home runs and 23 RBI last season.

Outfielders:
The Notre Dame outfield will be anchored by senior Matt Vierling, who is coming off a great 2018 campaign where he hit .301 with eight home runs and 42 RBI. Senior Daniel Ragna will start in center field after hitting .273 with one home run and 12 RBI last season. In left field the Irish have junior Ryan Lidge, who is one of the best defensive outfielders in the country. He only played in 28 games last season but he still managed to hit .333 with one home run and 11 RBI.

Pitchers:
The pitching staff for the Irish is headlined by senior Cameron Brown, who was named to the ACC preseason All-Conference team. Brown had a great 2018 season, going 9-4 with a 3.41 ERA in 19 starts. The Irish also have senior Ryan Smoyer, who was named to the ACC preseason All-Conference team as well. Smoyer went 8-5 with a 4.19 ERA in 19 starts last season

2019 Team

The 2019 Notre Dame Baseball Team will welcome back a strong core of upperclassmen while also relying on some talented newcomers to make an impact for the Irish this season. After missing out on the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2011 last year, Head Coach Mik Aoki and his squad will look to get back to their winning ways in 2019.

2019 Prospects

The Notre Dame Baseball team is gearing up for the 2019 season with a talented roster of prospects. The Fighting Irish will have a strong pitching staff, led by junior ace Johnathon Stiegler. Stiegler posted a 3.33 ERA in 2018 with 95 strikeouts in 92 innings pitched He will be joined by senior starter Cole Kmet, who is coming off a strong freshman campaign in which he posted a 3.29 ERA. The Notre Dame bullpen will be anchored by junior relief pitcher Liam Hendriks, who closed out 14 games for the Irish last season.

On the offensive side, Notre Dame will be led by senior first baseman and cleanup hitter Daniel Jung. Jung hit . 322 with 10 home runs and 50 RBIs last season and will look to build on those numbers in 2019. The Irish will also rely on the power-hitting duo of junior third baseman Eric Gilgenbach and sophomore outfielder Spencer Myers. Gilgenbach hit .293 with eight home runs and 34 RBIs last season, while Myers slugged seven home runs and drove in 27 runs as a freshman.
