Life in the Minors
Tony Sanchez knows what it’s like to be a minor league baseball player He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2009 and spent six years in the minors before making his Major League debut in 2015.
Sanchez believes that the biggest difference between the majors and minors is the level of competition. In the majors, every player is good enough to be there. In the minors, there are some players who are just trying to hang on, hoping to get their opportunity someday.
The other big difference is the pay. Major League players make millions of dollars a year. Minor League players make a fraction of that. Sanchez remembers one minor league season when he made just $2,000. He had to live with seven other guys in an apartment and eat Ramen noodles for dinner every night.
But Sanchez kept working hard and finally got his chance to play in the majors. He knows that not everyone is as lucky as he was, but he’s thankful for his journey, even if it wasn’t always easy.
