Introducing the UK Women’s Basketball Roster
The UK Women’s Basketball team is comprised of 12 talented athletes from all across the country. Get to know the team a little better with this introduction to the roster.
#1 Guards
Leah Edmond – 5’11” – Lexington, KY
Edmond is a senior guard who averaged 3.8 points and 2.1 rebounds per game last season. She will be a key player for the Wildcats this year as they look to make a run at the NCAA tournament
Makalya Epps – 5’6” – Indianapolis, IN
Epps is a junior guard who averaged 9.5 points and 2.9 assists per game last season. She is a quick, tenacious defender who will be counted on to help lead the team on both ends of the court.
#2 Forwards
Batouly Camara – 6’2” – Bronx, NY
Camara is a redshirt junior forward who averaged 5.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game last season. She has great size and strength and will be a key player in the post for the Wildcats this year.
Bria Goss – 6’0” – Indianapolis, IN
Goss is a senior forward who averaged 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game last season. She is a versatile player who can score inside and out, and she will be counted on to provide leadership for the team this year.

The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team is gearing up for another season of hardwood action. Head Coach Matthew Mitchell has assembled a talented group of young women who are ready to take the court and compete at the highest level Here is a closer look at the team’s roster:
#1 Makayla Epps – Guard
Makayla Epps is a 5-foot-10-inch guard from Lexington, Kentucky. She attended Marion County High School where she was a four-time All-State selection. Epps was also named Kentucky’s Miss Basketball in 2014. She chose to play her college basketball close to home, and she has been a key player for the Wildcats over the past three seasons. Epps is known for her scoring ability, and she will be counted on to provide a spark for the team again this year.
#2 Alex Poythress – Forward
Alex Poythress is a 6-foot-8-inch forward from Clarksville, Tennessee. He attended Northeast High School where he was named Mr. Basketball in Tennessee in 2012. Poythress originally committed to play his college basketball at the University of Kentucky but he decided to forego college and declare for the NBA draft after his junior year of high school He eventually chose to return to UK and finish his college career, and he has been a key player for the Wildcats over the past two seasons. Poythress is known for his versatile skill set and his ability to score in a variety of ways. He will be one of the leaders on this year’s team.
#3 Selfies Franklin – Guard
Sophie Franklin is a 5-foot-9-inch guard from Toronto, Canada. She attended Bill Crothers Secondary School, where she was named Ontario’s Player of the Year in 2015. Franklin chose to play her College Basketball at the University of Kentucky over several other offers from schools around North America She has seen limited playing time over her first two seasons with the Wildcats, but she is expected to be an important part of the rotation this year. Franklin is known for her shooting ability and her athleticism.
#4 Keyla Snowden – Guard
Keyla Snowden is a 5-foot-5-inch guard from Louisville, Kentucky. She attended Ballard high school where she was named Louisville’s Ms. Basketball in 2014. Snowden originally committed to play her College Basketball at Oklahoma State University but she chose to transfer to UK after her freshman year due to personal reasons . Snowden has been a key player for the Wildcats over the past two seasons, providing energy and leadership off the bench . Snowden is known for her defensive prowess and her tenacious attitude on the court . She will be an important player for UK again this year .
#5 Batouly Camara – Center
Batouly Camara is a 6-foot-2-inch center from New York City , New York . She attended Westtown School , where she was named PA Gatorade Player of the Year in 2016 . Camara originally committed to play her college basketball at UConn , but she decommitted after Kevin Ollie was fired as head coach . Camara then chose Kentucky over several other offers , becoming one of Mitchell ‘s prized recruits in 2018 . Camara has not played much due to injuries over her first two seasons with UK , but she is healthy now and ready to make an impact . Camara is known for her athleticism and shot blocking ability , which should make her a force on both ends of the court this season .
UK Women’s basketball roster Players to Watch
The University of Kentucky Wildcats women’s Basketball team is one of the most successful programs in the country. The team has won eight NCAA Championships including two in the past four years. The Wildcats are also the only team in NCAA history to have a perfect season, going 40-0 in 2014-15.
The team is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation, and is led by Head Coach Matthew Mitchell. The Wildcats have a deep and talented roster, with several players who are expected to have big seasons. Here are some of the UK women’s basketball players to watch this year:
Alyssa Rice: A 6’3″ center, Rice is a sophomore from Reynoldsburg, Ohio. She was named the SEC Freshman of the Year last season after averaging 12 points and seven rebounds per game. Rice is expected to be one of the best players in the country this season, and could be an All-American.
Rhyne Howard: A 6’2″ guard, Howard is a freshman from Cleveland, Tennessee. She was rated as a five-star recruit by ESPN, and is expected to make an immediate impact for the Wildcats. Howard is a versatile player who can score from anywhere on the court.
Maci Morris: A 6’0″ guard from Jeffersonville, Kentucky, Morris is a senior who has been a key player for UK over the past few years. She averaged 17 points per game last season and was named First Team All-SEC. Morris will be looked to for leadership this season as she tries to help UK win another championship.
Minute Maids: A 6’1″ forward from Dayton, Ohio, Maids was a highly-touted recruit who chose UK over several other schools. She is expected to contribute right away for the Wildcats off the bench. Maids has great size and athleticism, and could be a key player in UK’s run to another title.
UK Women’s Basketball Roster Coaches to Know
The UK women’s basketball team is set to have another great season, and here are some of the coaches you should know!
Matt Insell is in his fourth season as Head coach of the Wildcats. He has led UK to two straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 berth in 2018.
Assistant coach Niya Butts is in her sixth season on Insell’s staff. She is a former All-American at Ohio State and was named one of the top assistant coaches in the country by The Athletic in 2018.
Assistant coach Lindsay Gottlieb is in her first season at UK after spending the last eight years as head coach at Cal. She led the Golden Bears to six NCAA tournament appearances, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2013.
UK Women’s Basketball Roster Key Stats
The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team is one of the most dominant programs in the country. The team is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation and is coming off a perfect 32-0 season. The Wildcats have won two National Championships in the last three years and are looking to add a third this season.
The team is led by senior guard Makayla Epps, who is averaging 17.9 points per game Epps is a two-time All-American and was named the SEC Player of the Year last season. She will be joined in the backcourt by freshman point guard Lindsey Corsaro, who is averaging 9.4 points and 5.1 assists per game
In the frontcourt, UK is led by junior forward Evelyn Akhator, who is averaging 13.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. Akhator was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year last season and is one of the best shot blockers in the country. She will be joined by junior forward Alex Poythress, who is averaging 11.4 points per game and sophomore center Alyssa Rice, who is averaging 8.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
UK Women’s Basketball Roster Schedule
The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team represents the University of Kentucky in the sport of women’s basketball. The Wildcats compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Eastern Conference (SEC). The team plays its home games in Lexington, Kentucky, United States at Rupp Arena which has a capacity of 23,000. The Wildcats are currently coached by Matthew Mitchell.
As of July 2017, the team has posted a record of 1,056–413 (.719), won eight SEC regular season championships and nine SEC tournament championships. They have made twenty-two NCAA tournament appearances, reached six Final Fours—including five straight from 2013 to 2017—and two NCAA championship games. In 2012–2013, the team set an NCAA Division I record for single-season wins with thirty-six.
