10) Eric Gordon Shoots Himself in the Face
In a 2014 game against the Charlotte Hornets Houston Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon went up for a layup and was promptly fouled by Hornets center Bismack Biyombo. As Gordon went to the ground, his momentum carried his head right into the basket stanchion, resulting in one of the most painful-looking self inflicted injuries in recent memory. To make matters worse, Gordon missed his ensuing free throw attempt.
9) Jimmy Butler Falls Asleep on Bench
During a 2015 game against the Charlotte Hornets then-Chicago Bulls swingman Jimmy Butler was caught napping on the bench by TV cameras. As his teammates huddled up for a timeout, Butler could be seen sprawled out on the bench with his eyes closed, seemingly fast asleep. To be fair, it did look like Butler was trying to take a cat nap between possessions, but unfortunately for him he was caught red-eyed on live TV.
8) JaVale McGee Air Balls Free Throw… Twice!
In a 2012 game against the Detroit Pistons then-Washington Wizards center JaVale McGee stepped to the Free Throw Line and proceeded to air ball not one, but two Free throws in quick succession. The first miss wasn’t too bad, but the second one was an absolute brick that barely grazed the front of the rim before sailing out of bounds. To make matters worse (or perhaps more hilarious), McGee then followed up his two misses by getting dunked on at the other end of the court by Greg Monroe. Yikes.
7) DeAndre Jordan Misses 20 Consecutive Free Throws
In 2014, Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan found himself in foul trouble and was sent to the free throw line an astounding 20 times in a row. Unfortunately for Jordan and Clippers fans everywhere, he proceeded to miss all 20 free throws in what might be one of the most epic shooting droughts in NBA history Making matters worse (or funnier depending on how you look at it), several of Jordan’s misses were so badly off target that they ended up going out of bounds off the backboard. 6) Steve Nash Tries to High Five Referee Nash is known for being a friendly guy, so it’s no surprise that he would try to high five a referee after hitting a big shot during a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder back in 2010. What is surprising is that Nash would try to high five official Joey Crawford during live game action! Thankfully Crawford had enough presence of mind to dodge Nash’s hand without losing focus on what was happening on court. Who knows what would have happened if they had actually made contact!
