Austin Peay Baseball’s Schedule is Packed This Season

The Austin Peay baseball team will be busy this season, with 52 games scheduled.
The first game is February 15, against the University of Evansville

Introduction

The Austin Peay State University (APSU) Baseball Team will play 55 games in the upcoming 2019 season, their most since 2006. The six-week span from late February to early April will be the most challenging part of the season for the Governors, as 19 of their 29 scheduled games during that time period will be on the road.

“We’ve got a lot of road games in a short amount of time at a critical part of the season,” said Head Coach Travis Janssen. “That’s something we haven’t done in my time here, and it will be a challenge for our team. We’ve just got to find a way to grind through it and take it one game at a time.”

The Schedule

The Governors have a total of 56 games scheduled this season, 27 of which will be at home and 29 on the road. The home opener is set for Friday, February 15th, against Fordham at Raymond C. Hand Park. conference play will start on Thursday, March 14th when the Govs travel to Murray State for a three-game series

Packed with Games

The Austin Peay Governors baseball team will have their hands full this season, as their schedule is packed with conference and non-conference games. In total, the squad will play 55 games in the regular season which is the most in program history.

Of those 55 contests, 32 will come against Ohio Valley Conference foes. That includes 17 home games and 15 road games against teams like Jacksonville State Morehead State and last year’s conference tournament champion Southeast Missouri State The Govs will also have three games against in-state opponents (Middle Tennessee Belmont, and Lipscomb), as well as a pair of meetings with instate rival Tennessee Tech

In addition to their conference slate, Austin Peay will also play 23 non-conference contests. That includes 11 home games and 12 road tilts against squads like Eastern Kentucky, Southern Illinois Edwardsville, Bradley, and Xavier. The Governors will also have a tough four-game road trip to face off against Oklahoma State Wichita State Iowa State and Oral Roberts

Out of Conference Games

The first part of the season is always the busiest for college baseball teams. Between mid-February and early April, teams play non-stop to get as many games in as possible before conference play starts. This year is no different for the Austin Peay Governors who have 31 games scheduled during this time period.

Out of those 31 games, only four are at home in Clarksville. The Governors will open their season on the road, with a three-game series at Middle Tennessee State February 15-17. They’ll stay on the road the following week, playing four games in Florida (including a three-game set against Florida Gulf Coast) before coming home for a three-game series against Bradley February 28-March 2.

Following that, Austin Peay will head back out on the road for another string of games, this time playing ten straight away from Clarksville. The stretch includes stops in Illinois, Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky. The team’s first Home game in over a month will be March 27 against Murray State

By the end of April, Austin Peay will haveplayed 28 out of their 32 non-conference games. They’ll finish up the regular season with four conference series’.

Home Games

This spring, the Austin Peay Governors baseball team has 31 home games scheduled. That’s the most in program history. The team will play host to Wright State Middle Tennessee Murray State Eastern Illinois SEMO, Jacksonville State and UT Martin.

Away Games

The away games for Austin Peay baseball are mostly located in the south. The reason for this is because the climate is more suited for playing baseball during this time of year. The team will be playing in Mobile, Alabama; Nashville, Tennessee; and Atlanta, Georgia.

Rival Games

This season, the Austin Peay Governors Baseball Team will have their hands full with a packed schedule They will be facing some tough rivals, including the Vanderbilt Commodores the Kentucky Wildcats and the Clemson Tigers

The Season

The 2021 college baseball season will be a busy one for Austin Peay State University The Governors are slated to play 56 games, the most in program history.

“We are very excited about the upcoming seasonhead coach Travis Janssen said. “To have the opportunity to play 56 games is a testament to the hard work of our staff and players.”

The Governors will open the season with a three-game series at home against Grand Canyon February 19-21. APSU will then hit the road for 11 straight games, including a five-game swing through Alabama (Samford, UAB and South Alabama) and Louisiana (Southeastern Louisiana and McNeese).

The Team

This year’s APSU Govs Baseball team is looking to build on the success of last year. The team is led by Head Coach Travis Janssen, who is in his fourth season with the Govs. The team is made up of 16 returnees and 12 newcomers. The returnees include seniors Ridge Smith, Ty Duvall, Garrett Copeland, and Michael Costanzo.

The team will play its home games at Raymond C. Hand Park, located on the campus of Austin Peay State University The park has a capacity of 3,500 spectators.

After a long offseason, the Austin Peay baseball team is finally back in action. The Governors have a packed schedule this season, with games against some of the best teams in the country.

Although they lost some Key Players from last season, the Governors have a lot of talent on their roster. They will need to play their best baseball if they want to make a run at the conference title

The Governors have a tough road ahead of them, but they have the talent and the drive to achieve their goals.
