In terms of recent success, the LEC has been dominated by two schools: the University of Southern Maine and Bridgewater State University Between them, they have won 14 of the last 16 conference championships.

The Little East Conference Baseball Tournament

Since its inception in 1986, the Little East Conference Baseball Tournament has been held at the end of each season to determine the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament The tournament is a double-elimination event, with four teams competing in each year.

The conference’s current baseball membership includes eight schools split into two divisions (North and South). The top two teams from each division qualify for the conference tournament which is held at a pre-determined neutral site.

In recent years the tournament has been held at Hitchner Field inManchester, New Hampshire (2016-2018) and Lowry Field in Brockton, Massachusetts (2019-2021), with North Division foes Plymouth State and Eastern Connecticut serving as its hosts, respectively.

The Little East Conference and Division I Baseball

The Little East Conference is a Division I college athletic conference that consists of eight schools in the Northeast United States The conference participates in baseball, basketball, cross country, track & field, and wrestling.

The conference was founded in 1986 as the New England Football Conference (NEFC), and began sponsoring baseball in 1988. In 2001, the conference changed its name to the Little East Conference.

At present, only two of the conference’s schools sponsor Division I baseball teams the University of Connecticut and Rhode Island College. Both teams compete in the conference’s northern division.

In order to be eligible for the postseason tournament, a team must have a winning percentage of .500 or better in conference games. The top four teams in each division qualify for the tournament, which is held at a neutral site.

The Little East Conference Baseball Tournament began in 2001. The University of Connecticut has won the tournament five times (2001, 2002, 2009, 2010, 2013), while Rhode Island College has won it three times (2003, 2004, 2012).

The LEC Baseball Tournament is held annually at the end of the regular season to determine the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament The tournament consists of four teams playing in a double-elimination format. The top four seeds (based on regular season conference records) host first-round games on their home campuses. The four first-round winners then advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament, which is held at a neutral site.

In order to be eligible for the LEC tournament, a team must have a .500 or better overall winning percentage and a .500 or better conference winning percentage. Any team that meets these criteria is eligible for selection to the tournament field by the conference’s Baseball Tournament Committee.

The LEC has had three teams receive at-large bids to the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament since the conference began sponsoring baseball in 1991. In 2005, both Mass-Dartmouth and Southern Maine received at-large bids to the NCAA tournament after finishing tied for third place in the Regular Season standings with identical 20-10 records. Mass-Dartmouth went on to win the LEC tournament that year and advanced to the College World Series

The LEC holds an annual winter Baseball Tournament to determine its conference champion. The tournament is a double-elimination format with all games played at a neutral site. The LEC’s Regular Season champion is guaranteed a spot in the tournament field, while the other seven teams compete in a play-in round to determine the remaining three spots.

In order to be eligible for the LEC tournament, a team must have played a minimum of Ten Conference games during the regular season To be eligible for the conference championship a team must have won at least half of its conference games.

The format of the LEC tournament has changed several times over its history. The current format was adopted in 2014 and has remained unchanged since then.

The LEC tournament champion earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament The LEC has had at least one representative in every NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament since 1992. In total, 23 different LEC teams have qualified for the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament with five different teams winning Regional Championships and four different teams advancing to the College World Series Eastern Connecticut State University (2000), Keene State College (2004), Plymouth State University (2013), and Southern Maine University (2016).
