There have been a lot of great NBA trades throughout the years. But which ones stand out as the best of the best? Here are eight of the most lopsided, influential, and otherwise just plain awesome NBA Trades of all time.

1. The Celtics send Ray Allen and a future conditional second-round pick to the Miami Heat for a package including Eddie House, Chris Quinn, and a future first-round pick

This trade is notable for two reasons. Firstly, it represents one of the rare occasions when a player of Ray Allen’s caliber was traded in his prime. Secondly, it completely changed the landscape of the Eastern Conference as it paved the way for Lebron James to team up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami, creating a dynasty that would go on to win two championships.

2. The Mavericks send Kris Humphries Shawn Marion, and cash considerations to the Raptors for Rudy Gay and Quincy Acy

This was a salary dump by the Mavericks, as they were trying to create cap space to sign DeAndre Jordan in Free agency However, it backfired spectacularly when Jordan changed his mind at the last minute and decided to re-sign with the Clippers. As a result, the Mavericks were forced to settle for second-tier players like Wesley Matthews and Monta Ellis. In retrospect, this trade looks even worse for Dallas given that Rudy Gay has turned out to be one of the best value contracts in the league.

3. The Thunder Trade James Harden Daequan Cook, and Lazar Hayward to the Houston Rockets for Kevin Martin Jeremy Lamb, first-round picks in 2013 (Steven Adams) and 2014 (Mitch McGary), and second-round pick in 2013 (Alex Abrines)

This trade is often cited as one of the worst in recent memory, as it sent an MVP candidate in James Harden to Houston for very little in return. James is one of the greatest players of all time, and he’s had a major impact on every team he’s played for. He left Cleveland for Miami in 2010, and won two championships with the Heat (in 2012 and 2013). He returned to Cleveland in 2014, and led them to their first ever championship in 2016. He joined the Los Angeles Lakersin 2018, and has been to nine NBA Finals overall (winning three). He’s also won four MVP Awards (in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013), and has been named to 15 All-Star teams.
