It’s a new season for the Long Beach State men’s Basketball team and there is a lot of excitement surrounding the program. Head Coach Dan Monson enters his 17th season at the helm of the 49ers and has a talented group of players that are ready to make some noise in the Big West Conference.

The Team

The Long Beach State men’s basketball team is ready to turn the page and start a new season. After a disappointing 2018-19 campaign, the Beach is looking to get back on track and return to the NCAA tournament

Head coach Dan Monson enters his 17th season at the helm of the program, and he will have a talented team at his disposal. The Beach will be led by senior point guard Deishuan Booker, who was named to Big West Preseason All-Conference team. Booker averaged 15.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game last season and will be counted on to be the leader of this team.

Joining Booker in the backcourt will be sophomore Jordan Roberts and junior college transfer Michael Carter III. Roberts is a versatile player who can score, rebound, and defend, while Carter III is an athletic guard who can provide a spark off the bench.

In the frontcourt, Long Beach State will feature junior Ross Tate and senior Temidayo Yusuf. Tate is a 6’8″ forward who can shoot from long range, while Yusuf is a 6’9″ center who is a force inside with his rebounding and shot-blocking ability. The 2019-2020 Season will see the Long Beach State Men’s Basketball team take on some tough opponents. This will be followed by a string of home games including games against University of California Irvine, Pepperdine University, and Sacramento State University The team will then travel to Las Vegas to participate in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Holiday Invitational. This tournament includes some tough teams, such as the University of Nevada Reno and UTEP. After returning from their holiday tournament, the team has a few more home games before beginning conference play Some of their opponents in conference play include UC Santa Barbara Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and UC Davis. The team’s last game of the season will be an away game against UC Santa Barbara on March 7th.
