The 2005 UNC basketball roster featured some of the most talented players in the country. Many of these players went on to have successful careers in the NBA, while others pursued different paths. Here is a look at what the members of the 2005 UNC basketball Roster are doing now.
Sean May: After being drafted 13th overall by the Charlotte Bobcats in 2005, May enjoyed a successful rookie season. He averaged 9.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game but his career was derailed by injuries. He played just three games in his second season before being sidelined with a Knee Injury He returned to action in 2008, but was traded to the Indiana Pacers in 2009. He played sparingly for the Pacers and was waived in 2010. He briefly played for the Reno Bighorns of the D-League before retiring from Professional Basketball
Rashad McCants: McCants was drafted 14th overall by his hometown Minnesota Timberwolves in 2005. He enjoyed a successful rookie season, averaging 10.0 points per game while shooting over 40 percent from three-point range However, he clashed with Head Coach Dwane Casey and was traded to the Sacramento Kings in 2007. He spent two seasons with the Kings before being waived in 2009. He played for various teams overseas before returning to the United States to play for the Texas Legends of the D-League in 2012-13.
Marvin Williams Williams was drafted 2nd overall by the Atlanta Hawks in 2005, becoming UNC’s highest draft pick since Michael Jordan went 3rd overall in 1984. Williams had a solid rookie season, averaging 10.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game but he has never quite lived up to expectations. He is still with the Hawks, and is currently averaging 9.6 points and 5.”8 rebounds per game

The UNC Basketball team that won the National Championship in 2005 has had a few players go on to have successful NBA careers, while others have faded into obscurity. Here’s a look at what some of the key members of that team are doing now.

-Marvin Williams: Currently plays for the Charlotte Hornets
-Sean May: Last played in the NBA in 2012; now works as a college basketball analyst
-Rashad McCants: Last played in the NBA in 2009; now owns a record label
-Jawad Williams: Last played professional basketball in 2012; now works as a youth counselor
Where Are They Now: Part 2
This is the second part of a series exploring what happened to the members of the 2005 UNC basketball team after their NCAA championship victory.
In the ten years since the 2005 championship, the members of the team have gone on to have very different experiences. Some have continued to play basketball professionally, while others have pursued different careers altogether. Whatever their path, each member of the team has had its share of ups and downs since leaving UNC.
In this article, we will check in with some of the Key Players from that team to see where they are now and how they are doing.
Where Are They Now: Part 3
In part three of our series, we catch up with some of the key players from the 2005 UNC Basketball team Specifically, we check in on Raymond Felton, Rashad McCants, and Sean May.
Raymond Felton was a McDonald’s All-American and the starting point guard for UNC as a freshman. He played a big role in UNC’s National Championship run, averaging 11.9 points and 6.9 assists per game After his freshman year, he declare for the NBA draft and was drafted fifth overall by the Charlotte Bobcats. He spent nine years in the NBA before returning to UNC to finish his degree in 2020.
Rashad McCants was another McDonald’s All-American who played a key role on the 2005 team. He was the leading scorer for UNC, averaging 14.4 points per game After his junior year, he declared for the NBA Draft and was drafted 14th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves He played four seasons in the NBA before going overseas to play professionally.
Sean May was also a key player on the 2005 team, averaging 13.4 points and 9 rebounds per game. After his junior year, he declaring for the NBA Draft and was drafted 13th overall by the Charlotte Bobcats (the same team that drafted Felton). He played six seasons in the NBA before retiring in 2012 due to injuries.

Since the 2005 UNC basketball team won the National Championship many of its members have gone on to have successful careers in the NBA. Here is an update on where some of the Key Players from that team are now:
-Raymond Felton: After being drafted 5th overall by the Charlotte Bobcats in 2005, Felton had a successful career with the team, making the All-Rookie First Team in 2006 and becoming an All-Star in 2010. He was traded to the New York Knicks in 2010 and played for them for two and a half seasons before being traded to the Denver Nuggets He is currently a free agent
-Sean May: Sean May was also drafted by the Charlotte Bobcats in 2005, with the 13th overall pick. He had a promising start to his career but was plagued by injuries and only played parts of three seasons with the Bobcats before being traded to the Sacramento Kings He spent two seasons with the Kings before being waived in 2011. He briefly played for Phoenix Suns and then overseas before retiring from basketball in 2013.
-Marvin Williams: Marvin Williams was drafted 2nd overall by the Atlanta Hawks in 2005 and spent his first seven seasons with the team. In 2012, he signed with the Utah Jazz where he has played ever since. He is currently averaging 11 points per game
-Rashad McCants: Rashad McCants was drafted 14th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2005 but only played three seasons with the team. In 2009, he was traded to Sacramento but only played one game for them before being waived. He has not played in the NBA since 2009 but has made various attempts to make a comeback over the years.

The 2017-2018 season was a tough one for the Tar Heels After going 18-19 and missing the NCAA tournament head coach Roy Williams looked to his former players for help. Here is where some of those players from the 2005 team are today.
Sean May: After a few years of playing professionally in Turkey and China, Sean May is now an Assistant Coach for the Charlotte Hornets
Raymond Felton: Raymond Felton is currently a free agent after playing 12 seasons in the NBA. During that time, he’s played for the Charlotte Hornets New York Knicks Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks Portland Trail Blazers and Denver Nuggets
Rashad McCants: Rashad McCants last played professionally in 2012 for the Texas Legends of the NBA D-League Since then, he’s made headlines for his actions off the court. In 2016, he claimed that UNC’s academic scandal was “100 percent true” and that he got passing grades for “paper classes” that required no attendance or coursework.

In the previous part of this series, we looked at what happened to the players from the University of North Carolina’s 2005 basketball team after their time with the Tar Heels In this edition, we’ll examine where the members of that team are now, both on and off the court.
Since leaving UNC, several players from the 2005 team have gone on to have successful professional careers. forward David Noel was drafted by the Charlotte Bobcats in 2006 and played for them for two seasons before being traded to the New York Knicks He played for the Knicks for one season before being waived. In 2009, he signed with BC Khimki of the Russian Professional Basketball League and won a League Championship with them in 2010. He then returned to the United States and played for various NBA teams’ summer leagues before signing with Pallacanestro Cantù of Italy’s Serie A in 2011. He is currently playing for them and is averaging 11 points and 4 rebounds per game.
guard Jerald Gillens-Butler also had a brief NBA Career playing two games for the Miami Heat in 2007 before being waived. He then played professionally in Turkey, Israel, and Puerto Rico before retiring from basketball in 2012.
After leaving UNC, center Sean May pursued a professional career overseas. He played in Turkey’s Basketball Super League for three years before returning to the United States in 2012. He currently plays for Fujian Sturgeons of China’s National Basketball League and is averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds per game.
guard Reyshawn Terry had a successful college career after UNC, winning back-to-back ACC Defensive Player of the Year awards while at NC State University He was not drafted by an NBA team but has since played professionally in Turkey and China.
Forward Marvin Williams was drafted 2nd overall by the Atlanta Hawks in 2005 and has gone on to have a successful NBA career playing for the Hawks until 2012 when he was traded to the Utah Jazz He is currently playing for them and is averaging 9 points per game

With the 2017-2018 NCAA season officially underway, we decided to take a look back at one of the most successful college basketball teams of recent memory: the 2005 North Carolina Tar Heels That year’s team, which featured future NBA players such as Raymond Felton, Sean May, Rashad McCants, and Marvin Williams, went on to win the National Championship after finishing the regular season with a 32-4 record.
So where are those guys now? Let’s take a look:
Raymond Felton: After spending 11 seasons in the NBA with various teams, Felton is currently a Free Agent
Sean May: May also had a brief NBA career playing for the Charlotte Bobcats and Sacramento Kings before retiring in 2013. He is now an assistant coach for his alma mater, the University of North Carolina
Rashad McCants: McCants played for several NBA teams before embarking on a professional career in China. He is currently a free-agent.
Marvin Williams: Williams is still going strong in the NBA, currently playing for the Charlotte Hornets

In 2005, the UNC basketball team went on to win the National Championship Since then, many of the members of that team have gone on to have very successful careers in the NBA. Some of them are still playing today, while others have already retired. Here is a look at where some of the members of that team are now.
Sean May:
May was drafted by the Charlotte Bobcats with the 13th overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft He played four seasons with the Bobcats before being traded to the Sacramento Kings in 2009. He then played one season with the Kings before being traded to the Indiana Pacers in 2010. He played two seasons with the Pacers before being traded back to the Charlotte Bobcats in 2012. He then played one more season with the Bobcats before being traded back to the Pacers in 2013. He was then waived by the Pacers and he did not play in 2014-15. In 2015, he signed a deal to play with Bnei Herzliya in Israel but was released after just two games due to injuries. His current whereabouts are unknown but he is no longer playing professional basketball
Rashad McCants:
McCants was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 14th overall pick in The 2005 NBA draft He played three seasons with The Timberwolves before being traded to The Sacramento Kings during The 2008-09 season. He only played 12 games for The Kings before being waived and he did not play again until signing with The Texas Legends of The NBA Development League midway through The 2009-10 season. He then played one more season in The D-League before signing with The Fujian Sturgeons of China for The 2011-12 season. In 2012, he signed a deal to play for Ventspils of Latvia but was released after just eight games due to injuries. In 2013, he returned to China andplayed for Tianjin Ronggang but was again released due to injuries after just five games . His current whereabouts are unknown but he is no longer playing professional basketball .
Marvin Williams:
Williams was drafted 2nd overall by Atlanta Hawks in 2005, becoming only second Tar Heel ever selected that high in draft behind Michael Jordan (1984, 3rd overall). Williams enjoyed a successful rookie year, starting all 82 regular season games and averaging 10 Points per game en route to winning Rookie of Month award (January 2006) and finishing second in Rookie of Year voting behind Chris Paul (New Orleans). After improving his scoring output each of next three seasons while providing stable presence at small forward position, Williams had breakout performance during 2008-09 campaign when he averaged career-highs 15 points and 6 rebounds per game while shooting 46 percent from three-point range; following year, increased his scoring average again while helping Hawks reach Eastern Conference semifinals for first time since 1999-00 campaign

It has been over a decade since the North Carolina Tar Heels won the National Championship in 2005. Since then, the team has seen many players come and go. Some have gone on to have successful careers in the NBA, while others have faded into obscurity.
